La Salle, FEU gain SSL semis
MANILA, Philippines — Fancied UAAP bets La Salle and Far Eastern scored contrasting wins and rolled into the semifinals of the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-Season Championships yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Armed with twice-to-beat advantages in the quarterfinals, the Lady Spikers grinded out a 25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 20-25, 17-15 win over archrival Ateneo Blue Eagles as the Lady Tamaraws downed NCAA champion St. Benilde Blazers, 21-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-17.
La Salle will face the winner between Santo Tomas and University of the East while FEU clashes with the victor between back-to-back champion National U and University of the Philippines.
The former UAAP champion wasted a 2-0 lead but recovered behind the exploits of Angel Canino with 17 points on 15 hits.
