Blue Eagles trample Lady Chiefs

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo stayed in playoff contention with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 win over Arellano in the  2024 Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-Season Championship yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Zey Pacia and Lyann de Guzman fired 10 points each as the Blue Eagles climbed to 2-1 in Pool A to tie the Lady Chiefs at second place. Back-to-back champion National U, which beat Ateneo last week, paces the group at 2-0.

“’Yun lang ang sinasabi sa amin ni coach Sergio (Veloso) na magkaroon ng strong mind and magtiwala lang sa sarili,” said Pacia in Ateneo’s good rebound from a four-set defeat to the Lady Bulldogs to stay in the thick of the playoff race.

No player finished in twin digits for the Lady Chiefs with Marianne Padillon, Fhaye Mangubat, Kacelyn Punzalan and Samantha Tiratira scoring five points apiece.

Meanwhile, UAAP contenders La Salle and Santo Tomas stayed perfect in their respective groups after easy wins against separate rivals late Friday night.
