San Beda drops heavy bomb on JRU

Yukien Andrada

MANILA, Philippines — San Beda used a devastating second-quarter onslaught in hammering out a 77-60 victory over Jose Rizal University yesterday and regaining its winning ways in NCAA Season 100 at the Filoil EcoOil Arena.

Yulkien Andrada spearheaded the charge and fired 16 points while Bryan Sajonia, James Payosing and Jomel Puno added 14, 13 and 13, respectively, as the Lions improved to 3-2 and bounced back from a 68-55 defeat to the Emilio Aguinaldo Generals last Tuesday.

“I have to give it to the boys on how they responded after that loss to EAC,” said San Beda coach Yuri Escueta.

Earlier, University of Perpetual Help drew strength from rookie Mark Gojo Cruz as it downed EAC, 73-67, to likewise improve to 3-2.

Escueta said they just got tired of being chased after all season long.

San Beda poured it on early when it dropped a 30-6 bomb that turned a slim 16-14 first-quarter edge into a 46-20 advantage.

JRU tried one last time to close the gap when it cut its deficit to 10 in the third period.
