MANILA, Philippines -- National athlete Jean Claude Saclag will be making his debut in the mixed martial arts stage at ONE Friday Fights 78 on Friday, September 6.
Saclag, a decorated kickboxer and wushu artist, will face Korea’s Lee Jun Young in a flyweight MMA bout.
The 29-year-old Saclag is a three-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist for kickboxing and a silver medalist in the Asian Games for wushu sanda.
The Team Lakay stalwart also previously won a gold medal in the 2014 Wushu World Cup for the Philippines, while grabbing a bronze in the 2013 Wushu World Championships.
Despite being decorated, Saclag will have a tough debut in ONE, especially since Lee will be a tough nut to crack.
The Korean is holding a 5-1 win-loss record, with four coming from finishes.
Saclag joins Carlos Alvarez on the ONE Friday Fights circuit as they look to follow in the footsteps of teammate Carlo Bumina-ang, who became the first Filipino fighter to win a $100,000 contract.
Bumina-ang, though, fell in his main roster debut last month.
