MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines split its double-header with Ireland and Mexico to stay in contention in the WBSC Under-18 Women’s Softball World Cup in Dallas, Texas over the weekend.
The Blu Girls clipped the Irish belles, 5-2, after a heartbreaking 6-4 defeat to the Mexicans, keeping the Cebuana Lhuillier-backed squad in the hunt in Group C.
The Filipinas, coached by Fil-Am and national seniors team standout Sky Ellazar, improved to 1-2 after falling to powerhouse Australia, 10-1, the day before.
“I know these girls have the potential to go toe to toe against the best of the best, and they proved it again,” said Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier.
