MANILA, Philippines —  Ramon “Tatz” Suzara was elected president of the Asian Volleyball Confederation yesterday in Bangkok, Thailand.

Suzara won over Qatari Ali Ghanem Al-Kuwari via landslide to claim the presidency of the Asian body, succeeding Indonesian Rita Subowo.

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation president bested Al-Kuwari, an AVC zonal executive vice-president, 48-15.

The victory of Suzara, who also serves as FIVB secretary of volleyball empowerment commission, is a major boost to the country’s volleyball program.

“The greatest boost shall be derived from the region’s grand tradition and rich history in volleyball,” Suzara said. “The legacy of inspiring wisdom and nurturing leadership of previous administrations will be carried on, even as the AVC story continues to unfold.”

Suzara has brought several major and prestigious international tournaments in local soil like the Men’s Volleyball Nation’s League, the AVC Challenge Cup and FIVB Challenger’s Cup.
