Undefeated WBA Asia super bantamweight champion Carl Jammes Martin has taken a great leap towards becoming the Philippines’ next world boxing champion. The 25-year-old native of Lagawe, Ifugao moved to Las Vegas with the promise of getting big fights on the world stage. The proud Igorot (23 wins with 18 knockouts) made the decision with his team to seek better management, better training and better nutrition. In an interview with The STAR and dwAN 1206 AM, Martin declared that this early, he is already happy with the choice that he and his team made.

“We’re actually staying here at the house of sir Sean (Gibbons), Knuckleheads Gym is also here,” Wonder Boy explained. “He really takes care of our needs, and even pays for my sparring partners. I’m learning so much here.”

Martin maintains that consistency and focus will eventually win the day. His routine is set in stone: gym, home, church. He knows that the sacrifice will be worth it. He is currently ranked No. 4 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No. 8 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

“I miss my family, but I haven’t proven anything yet,” he admits. “I’d like to bring home some success first. I want to get known here in the US first.”

Martin already has a scheduled fight within the next few weeks which he has not yet divulged. The goal right now is to train, keep learning and keep growing as a boxer. He doesn’t care who he’s facing. It’s all part of fighting for his dream. And we have no doubt that he will get there sooner rather than later.
