MANILA, Philippines — Converge has let go of coach Aldin Ayo in a stunning move merely 17 days before the team embarks on its redemption tour in PBA Season 49.

Ayo left along with his first assistant McJour Luib after four conferences at the helm. Under the Ayo era, the FiberXers reached the quarterfinals of the Commissioner’s Cup and Governors’ Cup of Season 47 but logged only three wins combined in the two conferences of Season 48 and finished 12th and last both times.

“It was a mutually agreed decision for both parties to part ways,” said FiberXers team manager Jacob Lao.

Assistant coach Franco Atienza, one of the remaining personnel from the disbanded Alaska franchise, will assume the role of interim head coach vice Ayo, who was still in charge during their Kadayawan Invitational Basketball Tournament campaign in Davao last week.
