HD Spikers make it three in a row

MJ Perez (No. 15) and the Cignal HD Spikers pulled off a hard-fought 25-18, 29-27, 21-25, 25-22 win over the upset-conscious ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles.

MANILA, Philippines — Cignal used its depth to quash Capital1 Solar, 25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 25-13, yesterday to continue to hold sway in Pool B of the PVL Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena.

MJ Perez paced the HD Spikers with 23 points while drawing the needed support from Ces Molina and Jacqueline Acuña, who each chipped in 12 hits, in claiming their third straight win that kept them perched atop the second group.

“Again, very thankful sa team dahil kung ano naging game plan namin nitong last two to three days sa training lumabas naman siya,” said Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos.

Perez, for her part, encouraged her team to strive for more.

“Of course, we’re happy but it’s still not enough because I feel we still haven’t reached our peak,” said Perez.

While Perez got all the assistance, Capital1 reinforcement Marina Tushova had little.

The towering Russian, fresh from a 24-point effort in a shock 26-24, 25-20, 25-18 win over defending champion Petro Gazz Tuesday, was at it again and unloaded a mammoth 28-hit performance but failed to squeeze the best from her teammates.
