Philippines lalampasan ang medal haul sa Tokyo Olympics

MANILA, Philippines — Kayang lampasan ng Team Philippines ang me­dal output nito noong Tokyo Olympics.

Ito ang pananaw ni Phi­lippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham ‘Bambol” Tolentino ilang araw bago ang opening ceremony.

Malaki ang tiwala ni Tolentino sa kakayahan ng mga Pinoy athletes na sasabak sa Paris Olympics.

“Definitely, we will deliver. Definitely, we will surpass Tokyo (Olympics),” ani Tolentino sa pagbisita nito sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum sa Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Maningning ang kampanya ng Pilipinas noong Tokyo Olympics matapos masungkit ni weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz ang kauna-unahang gintong medalya ng bansa sa Olympics.

Kasama pa rito ang dalawang pilak mula kina boxers Nesthy Petecio at Carlo Paalam at tanso ga­ling sa isa pang boxer na si Eumir Marcial.

“Pinaka-magandang conservative (forecast) is that we will surpass the Tokyo (haul). Actually, we surpassed the number of athletes from 19 to 22. My target was 25 if cycling and skateboarding (made it). Kung pumasok ang basketball ibang usapan,” wika pa ni Tolentino.

Sa Paris Olympics, may 22 atleta ang ipaparada ng Pilipinas.

Babanderahan ito nina world No. 2 pole vaulter EJ Obiena at world champion gymnast Carlos Yulo kasama ang limang boxers sa pangunguna nina Petecio, Paalam at Marcial.

Sasabak din ang Pili­pinas sa weightlifting, swim­ming, rowing, golf at fencing.

“With this template, with this preparation, we will deliver,” ani Tolentino sa PSA forum na suportado ng San Miguel Corporation, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Smart/PLDT, MILO, at ArenaPlus.

Lalarga ang Paris Olympics mula Hulyo 26 hanggang Agosto 11.

“One week na lang. Excited na lahat. May mga hindi na makatulog,” ani Tolentino.

Base sa inilabas na schedule ng Paris Olympics organizing committee, unang sasalang si Yulo sa gymnastics event.

“But definitely we will surpass Tokyo. Bahala na kayo kung one gold, two golds or three golds basta ma- surpass natin yung Tokyo. We’re all excited. Iba na yung mood ng athletes, level up na lahat. So, I’d like to thank the Philippine Sports Commission and our private partners and the Office of the President,” ani Tolentino.
