MANILA, Philippines – When Ian Garry said he would unlock the mystery of Michael “Venom” Page in UFC 303, he sure backed it up.

Not only did the young Irishman handle the dazzling Page, but he sure took the starch out the Englishman, who knew by the end of the three-round match that he got beat.

Garry took Round 1 when he went to the ground and nearly submitted Page with a rear naked choke. Page evened matters in the second round with his striking, but Garry once more took to the back to defuse one of the most explosive and unorthodox fighters in the world in Page, whose poor ground defense was exposed in this match.

Page cannot call Garry a “fake Conor MacGregor” anymore because the latter — who has admitted to being inspired by MacGregor — now has reeled off more consecutive wins in the cage by any Irishman.

After his win over Geoff Neal where he came back to win the last two rounds, this was an even more impressive feat in taking a unanimous decision win, where all three judges scored it 29-28 in favor of Garry. He showed that he is faster than Page and that he too has a new weapon in his arsenal with his grappling.

Garry hiked his record to a clean 15-0-0 while Page dropped to 22-3-0.

In the main event, defending light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira knocked out former champion Jiri Prochazka 12 seconds into the second round with a head kick. Pereira admitted that he noticed a flaw in Prochazka’s game plan during his warm-ups when he was trying to defend calf kicks while leaving his head exposed.

This was added into the game plan and executed perfectly.

Pereira was hardly troubled as he landed 38 significant strikes in 3:12 minutes inside the Octagon. Prochazka managed only seven.

Pereira moved up to 11-2-0 while Prochazka fell to 30-5-1.

Now, fight fans await if he will be allowed to move up to the heavyweight division where he has the opportunity to become the first fighter to win titles in three different weight classes.

UFC 303 was held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The next UFC fight card will be UFC Fight Night Rose Namajunas versus Tracy Cortez that will be held at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, and televised live in the Philippines this Sunday, July 14 over the Premier Sports channel on Sky Cable and Cignal as well as on the Blast TV streaming application. The preliminary card begins at 7 a.m. with the man card scheduled for 10 a.m.
