Tigresses stun DLSU foes
MANILA, Philippines — Santo Tomas stunned holder La Salle, 25-18, 25-23, 14-25, 16-25, 15-12, to seize the solo lead in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Tigresses squandered a two-set lead and faced a 9-12 deficit in the fifth set but dug deep and racked up six straight points to steal their way to 3-0 in front of a 12,240-strong crowd.
Jonna Chris Perdido and Angeline Poyos combined for 46 as UST pulled DLSU down to 2-1 and spoiled the 28-point eruption of Angel Canino.
Earlier, Far Eastern relied on a well-scattered attack to neutralize the 30-pointer of University of the East super rookie Casley Dongallo in a 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-27, 15-11 thriller.
FEU climbed to 2-1 while UE fell to 1-2.
