High school prospect Andy Gemao gets invite to NBA's Basketball Without Borders camp

MANILA, Philippines -- Andy Gemao, one of the top Filipino high school prospects, has received an invitation to the NBA's Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Global Camp later this month.

Gemao, who won the NCAA Season 98 championship with the Letran Squires last year, is one of the 40 high-school-age prospects across the globe.

A statement from the NBA said that he BWB camp will be held from February 16-18 as part of the NBA All-Star 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

"The camp, which will be open to NBA team personnel, will bring together 40 of the top high-school-age prospects from Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe to participate in athletic testing, movement efficiency, skill development stations, shooting and skills competitions, life skills seminars and 5-on-5 games under the guidance of current and former NBA and WNBA players, legends and coaches, including Joakim Noah and Detlef Schrempf," the statement read.

He is the only player from the Philippines in this year's BWB.

The highflying guard, who is now playhing for th Veritas Academy National Prep in California, is the third Filipino to be part of the NBA All-Star weekend events.

Previously, big men AJ Edu and Kai Sotto took part of the events.

In the final day of the camp, the Kim Bohuny Camp MVP will be given, as well as the Patrick Baumann Sportsmanship Award, the Three-Point Champion, the Defensive MVP and the Playoff MVP.

The campers will also be able to attend the NBA All-Star Game at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Among the former BWB campers that are currently in NBA rosters are Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Deandre Ayton, RJ Barrett, Lauri Markkanen and Jamal Murray.
