MANILA, Philippines -- James Yap has opened a new chapter in his basketball career with a new jersey number.

Yap, whose No. 18 is one of the most iconic in PBA history, will switch to No. 15 now that he has signed with the Blackwater Bossing.

Big man Troy Rosario is currently wearing No. 18 for the team.

“Farewell Eighteen… the jersey number I’ve always had since I started playing serious basketball… from Hua Siong College Iloilo, to UE, to PBL, and then PBA. I guess it’s safe to say that this number will always be a part of me, my career, my whole life,” the guard said in an Instagram post.

“As I move into a new team, a number will be given to me. Please continue to support me, nothing will change. I will just leave the number 18, but not basketball. Thank you and goodby number 18, that was a meaningful and unforgettable run,” he added.

“Say hello to your new Bossing. James Yap, number 15.”

Yap, late last month, parted ways with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

Roughly two weeks later, he found his way to the Bossing, who won just one contest in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

“Thank you God for the privilege, the blessings, the awards, and championships I got, while carrying this number. I am grateful for every hardship and joy that arrived in my life while wearing this jersey number,” he added.

One of the most prolific scorers in PBA history, the guard played sparingly during the Elasto Painters’ campaign in the commissioner’s cup.

The two-time PBA Most Valuable Player averaged just five points and a rebound per game this conference.
