MANILA, Philippines -- Filipino speed skater Peter Groseclose came up short in the quarterfinals of the men's 1000m short track speed skating event at the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics Sunday.

Groseclose ended the quarterfinal 1 in fourth place after notching a time of 1:28.899.

He finished behind China's Xinzhe Zhang, the United States' Sean Shuai and Great Britain's Willem Murray.

Groseclose bowed out of another event after he failed to make the semifinals of the 1500m short track speed skating event on Saturday.

The 16-year-old finished the heats on top of Heat 2 after he notched a time of 1:30.243.

In Heat 2, he finished ahead of Turkiye's Muhammed Bozdag.

In the finals, Zhang turned up with the gold medal after punching in a time of 1:26.257.

Bozdag finished with the silver medal after having a time of 1:26.349.

Japan's Raito Kida brought home the bronze with a time of 1:26.478.

The gold medalist Zhang on Saturday brought home the silver medal in the 1500m event.

Groseclose will still compete in the 500m event.
