Jacob Cortez leaves San Beda for La Salle

MANILA, Philippines -- Jacob Cortez has officially traded his red jersey for a green one, as he confirmed his jump from San Beda to La Salle.

Cortez, son of former La Salle guard Mike Cortez, is joining the recently crowned UAAP champions.

He helped lead the San Beda Red Lions to the NCAA Season 99 championship.

Cortez posted photos on his official Instagram page Friday, with the caption "Then and now."

Here, he posted a photo of him wearing a La Salle shirt, with a throwback photo of him wearing a La Salle jersey from his younger years.

The hot-shot guard averaged 15.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.4 blocks in 18 elimination games for San Beda.

In the best-of-three finals series against the Mapua Cardinals, Cortez averaged 13.7 points, 4.0 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals a game.

He will undergo a season of residency and will be eligible to play for the Taft-based squad in UAAP Season 88.

With Cortez in tow, the guard situation in Taft will be answered.

Following La Salle's championship, the Green Archers' backcourt is depleted with the departure of guards Evan Nelle and Mark Nonoy.

Cortez will fill the void led by the two.

The decision came a day after he announced his departure from San Beda.

"Challenging, improving, and growing is always my goal, and so I have decided that to achieve this, I need to get out of my comfort zone. With that, I plan to compete in the UAAP," he said in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
