PLDT, Akari, Creamline take PVL free agency hauls
MANILA, Philippines – The mad Premier Volleyball League pre-season recruiting spree just got madder.
In a frantic acquisition rush created by expiring contracts and F2 Logistics' disbandment, PLDT, Akari and Creamline gained their fair shares of hauls from the rich free agency pool.
The High Speed Hitters scooped up Kianna Dy, Majoy Baron and Kim Fajardo while the Chargers continued their evolution to title contenders after they got a commitment from Ced Domingo to play for them in the PVL All-Filipino Conference unfurling February 17.
The proud, dynastic Cool Smashers, for their part, have reportedly snatched Bea de Leon to fill that massive Domingo void up front as well as veteran libero Denden Lazaro-Revilla from their sister squad—the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.
PLDT’s tapping of Dy, Baron and Fajardo came just days after the contracts of Michelle Morente, Mean Mendrez and Anj Legacion expired.
The power troika will be reuniting with former La Salle teammate and PLDT skipper Mika Reyes.
Domingo, meanwhile, according to a very reliable source, has committed to Akari and is just waiting for the former Finals MVP to officially sign a contract after her stint in Thailand with Nakhon Ratchasima VC ends this month.
“We’re waiting patiently. Until it becomes official, hindi kami kampante,” the same source said.
Akari had recently tabbed a high-profile player in Grethcel Soltones from Petro Gazz that bolstered its already star-studded team headed by Dindin Santiago-Manabat and fast-rising young talents Faith Nisperos and Fifi Sharma.
More could be coming as the Chargers have yet to officially announce their new coach and successor to Brazilian Jorge Souza de Brito.
