'Paalam, partner:' Caidic, PBA mourn loss of 'true icon' Samboy Lim
MANILA, Philippines -- Allan Caidic has bid adieu to his “partner,” Samboy Lim.
Lim died on Saturday, December 23, his family announced on his official Facebook page.
Caidic was among the people who were with Lim at the Medical City, in the final moments of “The Skywalker.”
“Paalam, partner… Sky high and walk into the arms of our Lord. Rest in paradise,” Caidic posted on his Instagram page.
“Thank you for the friendship!” he added.
Lim and Caidic became teammates back in 1993, when the sharpshooter was acquired by the San Miguel Beermen.
Lim was already a star for the Beermen. The addition of Caidic resulted in one of the most potent backcourts in the league.
The pair won a number of championships together.
They were both members of the PBA Hall of Fame Class of 2009, and a part of both the PBA 25 and 40 Greatest Players.
Meanwhile, the PBA also sent condolences to the family and loved ones of Lim.
“The PBA mourns the loss of a true icon, a player whose contributions to the league have left an indelible mark on the hearts of basketball enthusiasts across the nation,” the PBA said.
“Samboy, known as 'the Skywalker,' soared to great heights with his remarkable skills, electrifying the court and captivating fans with his unparalleled talent,” it added.
The popular acrobatic and come-what-may plays of Lim, the PBA underscored, were not just attributes on the court, but a testament to his passion and dedication.
“As we bid farewell to a true basketball legend, we remember the joy he brought to countless fans and the pride he instilled in the hearts of Filipinos. Samboy, may you fly high and free like the Skywalker you were known to be,” the league said.
