Rondina leads Choco to 9th straight win

Sisi Rondina of Choco Mucho spells the difference against Gerflor yesterday at the PhilSports Arena.

MANILA, Philippines — Choco Mucho smashed Gerflor, 25-16, 25-17, 25-11, yesterday to extend its winning streak in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena.

Sisi Rondina left a heap of destruction with 17 points while skipper Bea de Leon came through with her best effort in a long while and dropped 13 as the Flying Titans rolled to their ninth win in row after an opening-day loss to big sister Creamline.

Choco Mucho will try to stretch it further to 10 as it clashes with Chery Tiggo in another out-of-town sortie in Iloilo on Saturday.

The Flying Titans have secured a spot to the semis days before but went for the win with hopes of gaining enough confidence for the playoff round.

There, Choco Mucho will be eyeing its first podium finish since joining the league four years ago.

The Flying Titans’ best finish was fourth twice in the Bacarra, Ilocos Norte bubble two years ago and the Open Conference the next year.

And it was because of the pint-sized dynamo named Rondina, who is on the cusp of claiming the league’s MVP plum after piling one spectacular game after another.

Earlier, Farm Fresh trounced Galeries Tower, 25-10, 25-18, 24-26, 25-16, to improve to 2-8.

The Defenders and the Highrisers both sank to 0-9.
