MANILA, Philippines — Mark Jay Bacojo and Christian Gian Karlo Arca made the country proud with a pair of feats that reverberated in the FIDE World Youth Chess Championships in Montesilvano, Italy.
Bacojo, 17, sealed his second International Master norm with still three rounds to go in the 11-round event in the premier Open Under-18 section with 6.5 points. Arca, 14, pulled off a shocker by ruling the blitz section against older, higher-rated foes for 8.5 points, ahead of Armenian FM Benik Agasarov (8.0)
