MANILA, Philippines — Manny Pacquiao neither confirmed nor denied rumors about a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. being arranged.
Instead, the Filipino boxing icon teased that something big will be revealed.
“Abangan niyo na lang yung announcement (Just wait for the announcement),” Pacquiao responded recently when asked if there is truth to social media posts claiming he and Mayweather will go at it for a second time.
Such chatter has been circulating on the internet the past few days, with one Facebook post showing a fight poster of the two superstars.
The caption indicated “May 2024”, pertaining to Mayweather-Pacquiao 2 — which, if formalized, will be a follow-up to the megabuck showdown in 2015 that ended up as the richest fight in boxing history.
No other details were mentioned in the post.
Pacquiao, for his part, remained coy.
“Soon, soon,” added Pacquiao when pressed about the date of the announcement.
The eight-division world champion made the teaser when quizzed by curious reporters during a public appearance two weekends ago announcing his latest partnership with an Australia-based education and training company.
Such business dealings are among those that keep Pacquiao busy these days since announcing his retirement from boxing two years ago.
Apparently, so does boxing — still.
Over the weekend, Pacquiao posted on X, the micro-blogging site formerly known as Twitter, photos of him back in the gym training.

Training for what and for who? These remain to be addressed.
But one thing is for sure — something is being cooked.
