UFC Fight Night: Green knocks out Dawson in 33 seconds

MANILA, Philippines – Bobby Green inflicted a “grandfather beating” on fellow lightweight Grant Dawson in the main event of UFC Fight Night last Sunday with a scintillating knockout in only 33 seconds.

UFC Fight Night was televised live in the Philippines over the Premier Sports channel on Skycable and Cignal as well as on the TapGo TV and Blast TV streaming applications.

The 37-year-old Green promised that older men like him would have no problems with the 29-year old freight train that is Dawson, who hasn’t been defeated in nine UFC matches and has not taken a loss since 2016 when the latter was in the Kansas Fighting Alliance.

Green landed a left punch that struck Dawson square in the face, and the latter landed in a heap with the former wading in for hammer strikes. The referee waded in to put an end to the fight.

Said the victorious Green, who only recently relocated to Las Vegas: "I thought I hit him with the right... it was a straight left! Where my dogs at?! Let me see my dogs! I don't call shots. I just take whoever they put in front of me. But I want to fight in December. I want to be the most active fighter this year. Nobody got more fights than me this year. So put me in December."

The massive triumph over Dawson gives Green a 2-0 record for 2023 with one no contest and erases the stigma of a 1-2 slate for 2022, including a two-match slide where Islam Makhachev and Drew Dober bested him.

It improved his overall fight record to 31 wins, 14 losses, one draw and one no contest.

Dawson, for his part, suffered his most shocking albeit painful loss as he was expected to take down Green. His record is now 20 wins, two losses and one draw.

He hopes to fight at UFC 296 this December.

Next week’s UFC Fight Night on Sunday, October 15, pits surging Brazilian Edson Barboza (23-11) taking on Sodiq Yusuff (13-2) in a featherweight match that is the main event. The UFC event also features Filipino-American TJ Brown (17-10), who battles Darren Elkins (27-11) in the preliminary card.
