Red Warriors storm back, slay Tamaraws
MANILA, Philippines -- The UE Red Warriors completed a massive come-from-behind win over the FEU Tamaraws, 65-58, Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Down by as much as 14 points toward the third quarter, 36-50, UE scored 22 straight points stretching to the fourth period as Gjerard Wilson, Precious Momowei and Rey Remogat carried the load to take a 58-50 lead.
The run was broken by an alley-oop finish by Mo Faty to cut the lead to six, 52-58.
But a pair of free throws by Momowei pushed the lead to eight anew.
Jorick Bautista retaliated with a 3-pointer to slash the lead to five, but a Kevin Durant-esque pull-up jumper by Momowei took the game out of reach.
Bautista hit another trey on the other end, but a JM Tulabut and-one finish off a pretty pick-and-roll play with 29.8 seconds left ended the game.
Wilson and Momowei led UE with 15 points apiece.
Momowei had 17 boards and three steals.
LJ Gonzales finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for FEU.
With the win, UE is now holding a 2-1 win-loss record.
FEU, meanwhile, is 0-3 in the tournament.
