BOCAUE, Bulacan – Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes is eyeing to secure more rebounds and trim their turnovers in their next FIBA World Cup game against Angola on Sunday.
Gilas lost a heartbreaker against the Dominican Republic, 87-81, at the Philippine Arena Friday night.
Following the loss, Reyes said they are setting their sights to the next game.
“We have to focus on our next game. It is a quick turnaround for us, so we gotta get ready for Angola,” the coach told reporters after the game.
The Dominican Republic secured 43 rebounds compared to Gilas’ 35.
The Dominicans were also able to force Gilas to turn the ball over 19 times, and eight of these were from star Jordan Clarkson.
“Angola pressures the ball just as the Dominican Republic did. Definitely, we have to make adjustments on our offense, because today, we had 19 turnovers. That was big,” Reyes reiterated.
“We shot the ball well, we shot the ball better than the Dominican Republic, but they had more attempts than us. The story was our 19 turnovers and we gave up 17 offensive rebounds and that was it,” he added.
“We have to make sure that we are able to cope with the defensive pressure of Angola.”
Gilas will be facing Angola on Sunday, 8 p.m., at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Angola was earlier defeated by Italy, 81-67.
