Altas disarm Generals for 1st V-League win
MANILA, Philippines -- Reigning NCAA men’s volleyball champions University of Perpetual Help System-Delta Altas notched their first win in the V-League after drubbing the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals in three sets, 29-27, 26-24, 25-19, Wednesday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
With the game going down the line in the third set, 18-17, Perpetual unleashed a 6-1 run capped by a service ace by Michael Medalla.
A net touch gave a point to the Generals as they tried to salvage the game.
But an error ended the game for EAC.
EAC’s Bryan Jay Cabrera’s attempt to score was blocked, and two Generals were about to receive the ball, but a miscommunication occurred with both players hesitating and pulling their reception attempt at the last second.
Errors were crucial in the game, as it also gave the second set to Perpetual.
With the game tied at 21-21 following an attack error from Perpetual, the Altas was given some breathing room due to errors by EAC.
An error from General Ervin Patrick Osabel gave the extended second set to Perpetual, 26-24.
The Altas’ win came despite the absence of star player Louie Ramirez, who is currently in Japan training with the Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler.
Ramirez was the NCAA season 98 MVP and the finals MVP.
The V-League collegiate championship kicked off Wednesday morning.
