Kai tries one more time

MANILA, Philippines — One more chance.
After showing a glimpse of his potential, Kai Sotto takes one last shot at earning his stripes as the Orlando Magic wrap up their campaign against the Boston Celtics in the 2023 NBA Summer League today at the Thomas and Mack Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Game time is at 6:30 a.m. (Manila time) with the 7-foot-3 Filipino NBA hopeful looking to ride the crest of his remarkable debut that was celebrated by his kababayans all around the world.
Vying to earn a contract to become the first Pinoy homegrown player in the NBA, Sotto is locked and loaded for his last push – now more than ever.
And like his solid performance on Friday against the Portland Trailblazers, Sotto will champion his defensive prowess as his biggest asset for whatever opportunities possibly waiting for him after the Summer League.
“I’m one of the tallest players out there and I gotta help my team take the paint when I’m in there,” said Sotto.
“Offensively, the game will come to me. I’m a good teammate, I’m a willing passer for a big guy so I will let my game come to me but defensively, I will do my work,” he added.
Sotto, 21, did show that defensive capability in an efficient outing, notching three blocks on top of his six points, four rebounds and an assist in only 13 minutes and 23 seconds of action in the Magic’s 88-71 loss to the Blazers.
That was despite logging three straight DNP-CDs (Did not play-Coach’s decision).
