Lions roar on; Knights triumph

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Marinerong Pilipino-San Beda clinched a playoff seat while Wangs Basketball @27 Striker-Letran handed new head coach Rensy Bajar a breakthrough win in the PBA-League Aspirants’ Cup yesterday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

James Payosing fired 17 points to lead eight players in twin digits as the Red Lions (4-1) mauled AMA Online (0-4), 119-70, for their fourth straight win.

Kurt Reyson, for his part, erupted for a tournament-high 36 points including 16 in the payoff period as the Knights fended off the PSP Gymers (2-3), 100-92, for their first win in three starts.

“We started the game on the wrong foot. More than the Xs and Os, it’s the attitude that we brought in the first half. We have to play with a better attitude. We have to respect our opponents and the game. ‘Yun ang naging mindset namin sa second half,” said San Beda coach Yuri Escueta.
