RSA backs young, promising golfers
MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel Corp. (SMC) head honcho Ramon S. Ang, the supercompetitive and successful owner of PBA teams San Miguel Beer, Magnolia and Ginebra San Miguel, is now lending his generous helping hand to two promising jungolfers in sisters Laurea and Lia Duque.
Mr. Ang, or RSA to the local business and sporting community, supports Laurea and Lia as they pursue their dreams of making it big in the sport. Laurea, 18, has been a national pool member for four years and has represented the country in various junior and open amateur events. Lia, 14, is an upcoming talent with great potentials.
The support covers everything from local and overseas tournaments, equipment, apparel, uniform and gear as well as all necessary coaching from swing to putting and short game to strength and conditioning.
For topnotch training, SMC sends Laurea to Thailand at least two weeks every month and a half to train under coach Kris Assawaniporn who is credited with producing current world No. 3 Atthaya “Jeeno” Thitikul. Her recent trip last month added a special treat as she was able to train for a couple of days with the top Thai golfer.
Lia begins going to Thailand in 2023, and SMC hopes that the sisters will benefit from the world-class training that will translate to vast improvement in their games.
Their last US tour, funded by SMC and BMW Philippines, resulted in a number of good finishes for the sisters in Northern California highlighted by Laurea winning the San Francisco Junior Championships.
