Surging Lucero aims to make most of UAAP break for UP's title defense
MANILA, Philippines — As his game continues to raise and stabilize this UAAP Season 85, UP Fighting Maroons stalwart Zavier Lucero is keen on continuing to improve even as the UAAP takes a 12-day break for the upcoming FIBA window.
After a 17-point outing against UE on Saturday, to help UP improve to 9-1 for the season, Lucero said there were no plans to put his foot off of the gas pedal.
"I think this break is nice because we get a chance to, we can focus on ourselves for a bit and really break down what we can get better on." Lucero said.
"So that coming into the next game, it doesn't matter who we're playing because we've been working on us." he added.
Playing his final year with the Fighting Maroons, Lucero is looking for back-to-back UAAP titles.
But standing in their way in the final stretch of the elimination round is a tough schedule — which includes games against UAAP Season 84 runners-up Ateneo, La Salle, and FEU who will all be looking to take the defending champions down a notch.
Though currently on a tear with six straight wins, Lucero and UP is zeroing in on the nitty gritty to come out triumphant anew.
"I think that's the biggest thing for our team, making sure we're well-oiled and ready to go within ourselves, because then, it doesn't matter who's on the other side of the court." said Lucero.
"That'll be good, because we're trying to kill every team out there." he added.
