Saso ends slump with runnerup finish

MANILA, Philippines — Fil-Japanese Yuka Saso earned her best finish amid her season-long struggles as she took second behind England’s Jodi Shadoff in the LPGA Mediheal Championship last Sunday in Somis, California.
Making a late charge for the title, Saso fired an eagle-spiked closing six-under-par 66 but ran out of holes and lost to Shadoff (71) by a stroke in the final tally.
Saso earned $166,232 (around P9.8 million) for this placing, which she hopes will be the start of her return to form after a string of disappointing campaigns coming off her 2021 US Women’s Open conquest.
She missed the cut seven times in 2022 and wound up no higher than 32nd in her last four events prior to this.
“I’ll try to be patient with everything and have fun. I think that’s what I’m going to take from this week,” said Saso, whose previous season’s best was third in the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio back in January.
