MANILA, Philippines — Coach Yeng Guiao has bolted the NLEX camp after a five-season and one-conference stint highlighted by two semifinal appearances.
Guiao and the NLEX management have failed to come to terms on a contract extension and deemed it best to go their separate ways.
The fiery coach, who was even on hand when the Road Warriors played the Blackwater Bossing in a tuneup last Thursday, bid the players and team goodbye yesterday.
“It was a mutual decision between NLEX management and coach Yeng Guiao to end the agreement,” the team said in a statement.
The Road Warriors said they were grateful to Guiao for “developing” and professionalizing” the team during his nearly six-year stay.
Guiao’s NLEX departure fuelled talks he may be headed back to his old team Rain or Shine. But a source said there has been no communication yet between the 63-year-old mentor and the Elasto Painters management as of now.
Meanwhile, after parting ways with Phoenix, Fil-Canadian sniper Matthew Wright signed a deal with Japanese B. League Division 1 club Kyoto Hannaryz.
