There’s no stopping Filipinas
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines is basking in glory as champions of football in Southeast Asia.
No typo there, the once regional minnows have found the right ingredients, the winning combo to rock the established order in this side of the world.
With Fil-foreign prospects from the UAAP, US NCAA Division 1 and even Europe banding together for at least a year, the coming of age was truly bound to happen for the lady booters.
President Marcos tipped his hat off to the Filipinas.
“Congratulations on this historic victory. The skill and talent displayed by every Filipino athlete is truly amazing,” he said.
“2015 pa lang, may potential na talaga yung women’s team natin. I think it’s a question of time,” added Jeff Cheng, manager and major backer of the FIFA World Cup-bound Philippine women’s side yesterday.
The squad finally struck gold in the AFF Women’s Championship over the weekend at the rain-blessed Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Fil-Ams Olivia McDaniel, Malea Cesar, Tahnai Annis, Jessica Miclat, Sarina Bolden, Kaya Hawkinson, Bella Flanigan, Sofia Harrison, Kiara Fontanilla, Dom Randle, Carleigh Frilles, Eva Madarang, Quinley Quezada, Maya Alcantara, and Jessica Cowart fused seamlessly with Kaya FC’s Inna Palacios, Hali Long, Tara Shelton and Cam Rodriguez, La Salle’s Anicka Castaneda, Fil-Canadian Jaclyn Saiki, Fil-Australian Chantelle Maniti, Fil-French Katrina Guillou and Fil-Norwegian Sara Eggesvik in this journey.
