Eduard Folayang eyes 2 more fights this year, open to Eddie Alvarez rematch
MANILA, Philippines — Team Lakay's Eduard Folayang is looking to fight twice more in ONE Championship this year after a resounding win over John Wayne Parr last March.
Folayang, a former ONE lightweight world champion, expressed his desire to break his hiatus sooner rather than later with fights eyed in the midyear and in December.
"Sa akin, gusto ko lumaban sana mid-year, kung pwede ng August or September. At saka isa sana sa December," Folayang told Philstar.com.
Folayang snapped a four-bout losing streak with a vintage performance against Parr in ONE X in Singapore.
Now that he's back on track, Folayang looks to build on his momentum.
Folayang already named Yoshihiro "Sexyama" Akiyama and Sage Northcutt as possible opponents. He said he is still trying to pursue those two.
"Sana matuloy yung laban namin ni Sexyama kasi syempre, hindi yun natuloy eh. And then, even kay Northcutt, diba siya sana yung magiging kalaban ko last time pero napalitan kaya kami ang naglaban ni John Wayne," said Folayang.
The Team Lakay stalwart is also open to a mixed-rules bout against Northcutt.
"Kung ayaw naman [ni Northcutt] ng MMA, pwede rin naman kami sa Muay Thai or kickboxing," he said.
Still, Folayang considers other possibilities — including another crack at Eddie Alvarez.
"Yet, sa ngayon, wala pa naman akong nakikitang ibang mga opponent pa pero, open naman tayo sa kung sino man ang i-next na naka-in line sa atin," said Folayang.
"Kung gusto nila yung Folayang vs Alvarez II, maganda rin, magandang laban din yun," he added.
Folayang lost to Alvarez in 2019, submitting via rear-naked choke in the first round.
