Germans refuse to play China in VNL after COVID-19 scare
MANILA, Philippines — Germany has refused to play their Volleyball Nations League match against China initially slated Thursday.
This as the Germans were not keen on competing against the Chinese players after some tested positive for COVID-19 early on.
But the athletes were "already cleared by local authorities" after they caught the global malady.
Germany thus forfeited the game, automatically giving China a 3-0 victory.
The match was supposed to be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum as the VNL action continues.
The Philippine National Volleyball Federation Inc. (PNVF) apologized to the Filipino spectators and all those inconvenienced by the cancellation.
"We apologize to the athletes, officials, spectators and fans around the world for any inconvenience caused by this cancellation," they said.
The match at 7 p.m. between Argentina and Slovenia will push through at the Big Dome.
