LeBron drops 56 to get Lakers back on track; Heat stop streaking Sixers
MANILA, Philippines — LeBron James came out with a vintage 56-point performance to tow the Los Angeles Lakers to victory over the Golden State Warriors, 124-116, at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday (Sunday, Manila time).
James, 37, came out with the timely scoring outburst to snap a four-game losing streak and keep themselves within the play-in at their current spot in the standings at No. 9 in the West.
They also sent the warriors reeling to their fourth straight defeat.
The Lakers edged Golden State in a nip and tuck affair that had the teams in deadlock, 110-all with 4:20 ticks left on the clock.
But a 9-2 run, capped off by a James alley-oop dunk, by the Lakers quickly turned the tide in favor of the home team.
Playing supporting role to James was Russell Westbrook who had 20 points, four assists, and four rebounds.
Steph Curry paced the Warriors in the losing effort with 30 points.
Jordan Poole also chipped in 23 markers for Golden State.
Elsewhere, the Miami Heat stopped a streaking Philadelphia 76ers side with a 99-82 victory in Florida.
Behind Tyler Herro's 21 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, the Heat snapped Philly's win streak at five games and furthered their lead in the Eastern Conference standings.
They now are three games ahead of Philly in the race for the top spot in the East.
In the other games, the Dallas Mavericks edged the Sacramento Kings, 114-113, even without Luka Doncic on the floor.
Dorian Finney-Smith converted on a triple late to put the Mavs up three with 3.8 ticks left in the game, 114-111.
The Charlotte Hornets, for their part, rode Terry Rozier's 31-point scoring night to drub the San Antonio Spurs, 123-117.
The Memphis Grizzlies, meanwhile, blew out the Orlando Magic, 124-96.
The Minnesota Timberwolves also picked up a victory as they beat the Portland Trail Blazers, 135-121.
