Valorant, Wild Rift tourneys highlight 1st of half PPGL's 2022 calendar

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Pro Gaming League (PPGL) is back as organizers of the Valorant Challengers Tour-Philippines (VCT-PH) and Wild Rift Champions Southeast Asia-Philippines (WCS-PH), the official tournaments under Riot Games.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Valorant Challengers Tour back for a second year, and to also officially introduce the Wild Rift Champions Southeast Asia to host countries across the region. Building off an eventful year in global esports, we look forward to delivering another round of competitive, action-packed events where the best contenders in the region will have the opportunity to prove their worth amongst the world’s strongest teams,” said Chris Tran, Head of Esports for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan at Riot Games.

Last year, VCT-PH champion Team Secret showcased the country's Valorant mastery as they wowed the world stage at the Valorant Champions, finishing in the top eight. Team Secret's Wild Rift roster, on the other hand, led the pack in the Southeast Asia Icon Series and represented the country in the Wild Rift Horzion Cup, finishing in third and fourth place.

For 2022, VCT-PH returns while the previous ICON series has now become the Wild Rift Champions SEA.

“We are excited to give Filipinos another year of unique esports opportunities together with our partners Riot Games. If 2021 was any indication, we have already proved that Philippine teams have what it takes to stand toe-to-toe against the best in the world. We hope to see more fresh faces and spectacular moments from our community this 2022 and we encourage everyone with a passion for gaming to express their talents in the PPGL,” said Mark Navarro, Country Manager, Mineski Philippines.

The open qualifiers for VCT-PH Stage 1 are ongoing until January. The group stages will follow on February 10. Registration for WCS-PH is now open from now till February 1, with the Swiss Round Qualifiers taking place on February 5 and 6 and the knockout qualifiers on February 11-13.
