MANILA, Philippines — Kai Sotto’s team in the Australian NBL, the Adelaide 36ers, called off their match against the Perth Wildcats yesterday “as a precautionary measure due to COVID-19 protocols.”
The 36ers also postponed their game against South East Melbourne on Jan. 2 Both matches are scheduled at the Adelaide Entertainment Center as part of their New Year homestand.
Adelaide said a team member has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting all players and staff to be considered as close contacts under the Australian State Government Covid Directions.
“The health of our players, coaches, staff, corporate partners, members and fans, is our number one priority. The focus now is to support our players and coaches during the isolation period and ensure their well-being,” said Adelaide 36ers CEO Nic Barbato.
The 7-foot-3 Sotto has only played one game for the 36ers so far due to knee soreness, registering one point, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks in a losing NBL debut against Cairns Taipans last week.
