TNT gets back on track
SMB nails 3rd straight win
MANILA, Philippines — TNT, with new import Aaron Fuller on board, wrapped up the Christmas holidays with a 95-92 escape act over Rain or Shine in the 46th PBA Governors’ Cup last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Fuller, who replaced the injured McKenzie Moore, jumped into action straight out of quarantine and joined forces with locals led by Mikey Williams, RR Pogoy and Poy Erram in getting TNT back on track and improving to a 2-2 card.
Formerly with NLEX, Fuller produced 13 points and 10 rebounds for a winning TNT debut in the concluding game of the PBA’s two-day “Season of Joy” extravaganza supported by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.
TNT’s local crew was at their usual efficient selves with Williams sizzling with 25, Pogoy shooting 18 and Erram punching in 15, including two clutch charities that gave the Tropa a three-point cushion.
TNT trailed early on, 24-9, but put up a mighty fightback and eventually overtook the Elasto Painters in the third via a momentum-swinging 33-18 exchange.
Henry Walker topscored with 32 but missed the potential equalizing trey for ROS, which fell to back-to-back losses and 2-3 overall.
Earlier, San Miguel Beer raised a glass for its third consecutive win via a day-after-Christmas 100-88 disposal of Terrafirma.
Terrence Romeo turned in a new conference-high 23 points.
