MANILA, Philippines — Former University of the East mentor Lawrence Chongson passed away yesterday due to heart attack. He was 58.

Chongson served as UE coach in different eras with his last stint being an active consultant to his late friend and head coach Lucio “Bong” Tan Jr. in the 82nd UAAP Season.

Tan, the UE owner, passed away in 2019, also due to heart attack.

Known for his vocal antics and long hairdo, Chongson served as coach of Tanduay and Boracay Rum in the PBA D-League while serving as agent and adviser to a bevy of stars led by UE stalwart Paul Lee.

Chongson’s sudden passing came only days following the death of another great collegiate mentor in San Beda’s Ato Badolato.
