Pacman, Floyd plan basketball match
MANILA, Philippines — Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. might face each other again in December – not inside the boxing ring but on the basketball court.
Word is that the retired ring icons who figured in a highly-lucrative boxing match in 2015 are trying to put up a charity game.
According to the plan, the basketball showdown will be staged in Las Vegas in time for Pacquiao’s 43rd birthday on Dec. 17. The MGM Grand is being eyed as venue.
Pacquiao and Mayweather, who broke all records in boxing revenues six years ago, will have to assemble a team of 10 players each with two ex-NBA players per squad.
They have both signed the letter of intent that carried the Mayweather Promotions letterhead.
“We also aim to generate funds for our chosen charities in time for Christmas,” the letter said.
Pacquiao, who is running for president in the May 2022 national elections, said he will use the event to help his poor countrymen.
Pacquiao and Mayweather, now 44, are avid basketball fans, and before their boxing match in 2015, they bumped into each other during an NBA game in Miami.
There have been calls for a rematch between the two superstars but nothing has come close to the negotiating table.
