MANILA, Philippines — Filipino figure skaters Michael Martinez and Christopher Caluza found themselves at the bottom half of the leaderboard after the men's short program in the 2021 Finlandia Trophy on Thursday in Finland.
Martinez, who competed for the first time since the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, tallied only 55.62 in his short program to end up 23rd in a field of 26 skaters.

Caluza was one spot higher at 22nd with 55.62.
Two-time Winter Olympian Martinez incurred a penalty after he fell on a triple axel attempt in his routine.
Meanwhile, Caluza under-rotated on triple loops in his program.
Canada's Keegan Messing and the United States' Jason Brown currently lead the pack with identical 92.39 scores after the SP.
Both Martinez and Caluza hope to pick up the pace when they participate in the Free Skate on Friday evening, Manila time.
