Rebisco gets boot in Asian volleyball tiff after lopsided loss to host squad
MANILA Philippines – Host Nakhon Ratchasima QminC overpowered a listless Rebisco with plenty to spare, 25-11, 25-19, 25-18, on Monday in advancing to the semifinals while eliminating the latter in the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Thailand.
The Nationals, mentored by Brazilian Jorge Souza de Brito, were just no match against the four-time Thailand league champions, who were headed by Kuttika Kaewpin and Nootsara Tomkom, to remain winless in the event in four outings.
Paced by the Kaewpin-Tomkom pair, the Thais were just too good and experienced and unloaded a whopping 46 attacks compared to the Filipinas’ measly 22.
It did not help that Rebisco had given up 22 points off errors.
Rebisco made it to the quarters even though it lost all its three preliminary round games including a pair of embarrassing straight sets losses to Altay of Kazakhstan, 23-25, 13-25, 17-25, Friday and Supreme Chonburi of Thailand, 11-25, 16-25, 16-25, Saturday.
Rebisco put up some fight and stole a set against Saipa Tehran of Iran in their third game before eventually succumbing in the end, 24-26, 25-22, 13-25, 17-25, Sunday.
