NAS welcomes initial batch of students
MANILA, Philippines — National Academy of Sports welcomed its pioneering batch of student-athletes for its inaugural school year.
The NAS, the newest attached institution of the Department of Education (DepEd), said that it has enrolled 52 learners, with 13 slots left for learners who will qualify for the scholarship.
The NAS was created last year under RA 11470 or the National Sports Academy Act that will implement a quality and enhanced secondary education program with a special curriculum on sports.
It has sports science, support services, and academics as core divisions that will serve as the basis for forming the appropriate programs of the sports institution.
NAS deputy executive director Emil Arroyo said that adequate learning materials and toolkits will be provided to learners even if the mode of instruction and training will be conducted online.
“The modality for learning this school year will primarily be online remote learning, pero ito po ay i-su-supplement ng digitized modules, and we will be conducting both synchronous and asynchronous classes, as well as sports training for our pioneering batch,” he said in a statement.
The NAS is geared towards early recognition and development of students who have demonstrated the potential in excelling in the field of sports.
