Basilan savors perfect run amid pandemic
MANILA, Philippines — For Jumbo Plastic-Basilan, winning the inaugural Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup – in dominant fashion – was a bonus to the golden opportunity to play amid pandemic.
“We’re fortunate enough to be playing during this difficult time of the pandemic. Winning a championship via a sweep only made it sweeter,” said Basilan mentor Jerson Cabiltes.
In spite of all the adversities, the Peace Riders completed a perfect run in the entire VisMin Super Cup featuring a total of 17 squads, two legs and the culminating Visayas-Mindanao finale.
Basilan, which swept the Mindanao leg last week, preserved an immaculate run all the way to the very end, pulling off an 83-65 rout Friday night for a 3-0 blanking of Visayas champion KCS-Mandaue in the super finale.
Basilan took home the P1 million grand prize after bagging a P500,000 reward for ruling the Mindanao tourney. Mandaue, which topped the Visayas tilt by stunning unbeaten Talisay, won the P500,000 prize for the runner-up finish.
