MANILA, Philippines — Elreen Ando may have missed the podium in her first Olympic appearance, but the future is bright for the young weightlifter.

Ando, tipped as one of the heirs to Hidilyn Diaz's throne in Philippine weightlifting, finished with new personal bests in snatch, clean and jerk, and total in the Tokyo Olympics Women's 64kg Tuesday.

The 22-year-old lifter successfully lifted 100kg in snatch and 122kg in clean and jerk for a total of 222kg — all of which were her best performances in her budding career.

Ando finished seventh in a pool of 10 lifters who, at presstime, were led by Italy's Giorgia Bordignon with 230kg.

The promising Olympic debut for the Ando comes just a day after her national team teammate Diaz won the country's first Olympic gold in the women's 55kg event.
