MANILA, Philippines — The San Miguel Beermen heaved a sigh of relief with news that guard Terrence Romeo didn’t suffer a major knee injury.

Romeo twisted his ankle and hurt his left knee during the Beermen’s opening game in the 46th PBA Philippine Cup against Meralco last Sunday, forcing him out of action in the last eight minutes of play.

“Initial MRI results look good but we have to wait for the doctor’s opinion and official diagnosis upon his checkup soon,” team manager Gee Abanilla said yesterday. “But at least we feel good about it.”

Romeo himself posted, “Thank you Lord so much” on his Instagram last Sunday.

The team didn’t go into details but PBA analyst Charles Tiu said he was told by the explosive guard that, “It seems like it was just a hyperextended knee and that all the ligaments are intact.”

Romeo played his first game since getting sidelined by a shoulder injury during the early part of the 2020 bubble in Clark. The scoring dynamo fired 18 points before limping out in the game that the Beermen lost, 87-93.

That match also saw the return of six-time MVP June Mar Fajardo from a long layoff due to a fractured shin. Fajardo played 18 minutes, scoring five points and grabbing five rebounds.
