Suns will try to 'build a wall' vs Giannis in Game 4
MANILA, Philippines — The Phoenix Suns are gearing up for a pivotal Game Four in the NBA Finals, seeking to stop the Milwaukee Bucks from tying the series on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time).
But with two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo gaining ground, it would be easier said than done.
That's why the effort on the defensive end needs to continue for the Suns, according to veteran leader Chris Paul.
"We're going to keep trying to build a wall. He's coming full speed every play, like a running back coming down hill," Paul said during the Suns' practice on Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time).
"Coach [Monty Williams] has a saying, we just try to get in his way," he added.
Antetokounmpo was a key contributor in Milwaukee's breakthrough Game Three win on Sunday (Monday in Manila), where he dropped 41 points and 13 rebounds en route to the 120-100 routing of the Suns.
But Paul remains wary of overcommitting to Antetokounmpo, as this can leave his teammates open to pick up the slack.
So while stopping the Greek Freak is a priority, they can't put their guard down against anybody else like Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez.
"He's (Giannis) to do that because he's surrounded by some really good players too," said Paul.
"Because you have Middleton out there on the wing, you got Lopez out there shooting it, and you got Jrue Holiday and all these other guys. So we're just going to stick with our game plan and see what we can do," he added.
Paul and the Suns will look to sieze control anew of the series with a 3-1 lead to inch closer to their first title in franchise history.
