Perez looking to earn Beermen’s trust
MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel Beer’s newly-acquired guard CJ Perez is ready to play whatever role the Beermen as of him as they go on a journey together in the coming PBA season.
Perez officially became a member of the former Philippine Cup kingpin the other day when the Commissioner’s Office approved the trade between SMB and his old team Terrafirma.
“I’m excited sa bago kong team kasi (it’s) another opportunity para sa akin (for me),” said the 2019 Rookie of the Year awardee, who can only join his new squad after his Gilas Pilipinas duties.
The incoming junior is well aware he has to earn his stripes in a heavyweight side filled with proven winners like June Mar Fajardo, Arwind Santos, Alex Cabagnot, Chris Ross, and Terrence Romeo.
“Of course I have to work hard to earn the trust of Coach Leo Austria and my teammates,” said Perez.
The 27-year-old utility guard averaged a league-best 24.4 points with 6.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and two steals last year for the Dyip.
