Valenzuela's 'House of Kobe' commemorates NBA legend on first death anniversary

MANILA, Philippines – The legend of the late Kobe Bryant was further immortalized at the “House of Kobe” in Valenzuela City Tuesday for the commemoration of his first death anniversary.

Marking also the first year of the Lakers-inspired court since its inauguration just hours before Bryant's passing, the city held a series of activities under strict protocols including the groundbreaking of Gigi's cradle — a multi-purpose youth center in honor of his daughter, Gianna.

The 13-year-old teen was with the basketball icon during the fatal helicopter crash in California a year ago that shocked not only the sports industry but the entire world.

Official marker of the House of Kobe, an art gallery and the 17th championship banner of the storied Los Angeles franchise from the 2020 NBA Season dedicated to Bryant have also been unveiled in the solemn ceremony, which started at 8:24 a.m. as a tribute to his iconic jersey numbers.

Sports patron and Valenzuela City second district representative Eric Martinez led the event, calling on the fans to continue sporting Bryant's famed "Mamba Mentality", on and off the court.

"Exatly a year ago, we are back here. It's all about Mamba Mentality. The legacy lives on. Kobe lives on. Mamba mentality is being the better versions of ourselves every day, not just in sports but in life," said Martinez, who also serves as deputy speaker in the House of Representatives.

House of Kobe, which is among the six NBA-inspired courts in the city, is available for visit and viewing for the next two weeks.
