MANILA, Philippines — Filipino wunderkind Kai Sotto played a limited but decent game as the NBA G League Ignite fell short to G League Vets, 113-107, in a scrimmage in Walnut Creek, California.

The 7-foot-2 teen tower racked up five points, five rebounds and two blocks for the wards of coach Brian Shaw in the exhibition match which was a part of their buildup for the G League season slated early next year.

His fellow prospects Jonathan Kuminga and Fil-Am Jalen Green led the way with 26 and 22 markers, respectively, for the Ignite squad being groomed by the G League as part of its reshaped pathway program to the NBA.

NBA veterans Amir Johnson and Jeremy Lin provided leadership and experience for the young Ignite team.

The 2019 NBA champion Lin from the Toronto Raptors, however, is not an official member of the G League squad and is only practicing for his NBA return bid after one season in the CBA.

Aside from his rising G League stint, Sotto is also blazing the trail for fellow aspirants with the upcoming launch of “Kaiju Academy” at the Spooky Nook Sports Champion Mill Complex in Ohio.

Kaiju, a Japanese term for “strange beast,” is Sotto’s academy that envisions to teach young athletes all over the world dreaming to make the NBA.
